Was I wrong to move on?
The matter before the court today.
Brought by blueman
My ex and I dated for almost four years. We had our problems, but I genuinely thought we would get married someday. We had even discussed what our wedding might look like and the kind of home we wanted to build together.
Things started going downhill during our last year. We argued more often, and whenever I tried to talk about our future, my ex would say we should take things one day at a time. I felt like I was the only one trying to make the relationship work.
Eventually, we broke up. It wasn't a clean breakup, though. We still checked on each other occasionally, and there were a few times we met up and ended up acting like we were still together. My ex would sometimes say they missed me, but whenever I asked if we were going to try again, the conversation went nowhere.
After about six months of this, I decided I couldn't keep waiting. I started focusing on myself, went out more with friends, and eventually met someone new. We took things slowly, but after a while, it became a proper relationship.
Three months into my new relationship, my ex reached out and said they had finally realised what they lost. They said they had been working on themselves and wanted us to try again. When I told them I was seeing someone, they were shocked.
They said four years together should count for something and that I had moved on too quickly. They also reminded me that I had once promised I would never give up on us.
Now, some of our mutual friends think I should have given my ex another chance, especially after everything we shared. Others say my ex had enough time to make things right and only came back when I was no longer available.
Honestly, part of me still wonders what would have happened if we had tried again. But I'm also happy with the person I'm with now, and I don't think it's fair to put my current relationship on hold for someone who wasn't sure about me.
